How To: Sync Devices and Users with Kandji

Kandji is a powerful, modern Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution for Apple devices.

By integrating Kandji and Asset Management for Jira, you can:

  • Import devices from Kandji into Asset Management for Jira
  • Import device users from Kandji into Asset Management for Jira
  • Import device assignment from Kandji into Asset Management for Jira

This guide will walk you through setting up this integration step-by-step.

Create a Kandji API Token

  1. Login to your Kandji Account and click on "Settings" from the left navigation menu.

  1. Click on "Access".

  1. Copy your organization's API URL, note it down for later and click on "Add Token".

  1. Give the API Token a name (like "Asset Management for Jira") and click on "Create".

  1. Click on "Copy Token", note it down for later, tick the confirmation checkbox and click on "Next.

  1. Click on Configure.

  1. Scroll down to the Device Information section, tick the "Device list" and "Device details" checkbox and click on "Save"

Setup Asset Management for Jira

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations

  2. Add the API URL and Token that you copied previously

3. Choose a Default Asset Type

We need to know what asset type to place imported devices into. You can freely edit the category of imported devices, so this can either be their permanent category or a temporary one.

Configure Sync Settings

You can customize the behavior of your synchronization so that it behaves as needed for your organization:

Default Location

You can set the default location for assets that our synced via Kandji.

Assignment

You may prefer to auto-checkout devices to their primary user in Kandji. If you change this setting to Yes, we will automatically check-in and checkout assets synced from Kandji as necessary based on changes to the primary user.

We search for matching User records using the following properties, in order of precedence:

    1. User ID, for users that have been synced previously
    2. Email address,
    3. User name, if the Kandji User Name property is mapped to the AMFJ Name field

If no match is found, a new User record will be created automatically.

Device Creation

By default, the Kandji Integration will not create any new assets in Asset Management for Jira. We provide this option to ensure you don't end up with duplicate assets in Asset Management for Jira.

During the first sync, we will try to match your assets in Kandji with assets in AMFJ using the Device Name in Kandji.

For future syncs, we will use the Kandji Device ID to match assets in AMFJ.

If you want to create new assets in AMFJ if there is no device match, you can enable this option.

Map Kandji Properties to Asset Management for Jira Fields

Lastly, you can map Kandji Properties to your own custom Asset Fields. Any Kandji properties that haven't been mapped won't be populated when the assets are created in AMFJ.

You’re all set! The first time you set up your integration we will sync all of our assets immediately. After that, we will import changes from Kandji periodically - once every hour.

When you run the sync for the first time, we will sync all of your assets from Kandji and create new assets in Asset Management for Jira. Any future syncs will only update the assets that were previously synced from Kandji.
